More About Marietta Real Estate

Marietta Georgia is a collage of the old south and the new south.  There is charm and grace in the relatively older buildings that border the city square named Glover Park, and plenty of reminders of what used to be.  The Gone With the Wind Museum, the old train depot turned Visitor’s Center and the Kennesaw House, built in 1845, one of two buildings not burned in Sherman’s march to the sea during the “War of Northern Aggression” also known as The Civil War. The train still runs frequently near Marietta’s square and it is a welcome site to behold as children try to discover which direction it is headed and, once spotting it, can be seen counting the cars all in a row.

As Marietta is the county seat of Cobb County, most the municipal buildings are within walking distance of the town square and their immense structure, though newer in construction, do not detract from the beauty of the antebellum surroundings.  Along Marietta’s downtown square are quaint professional offices, shops selling antiques, fine clothes, cigars, costumes, artwork and ice cream.

Great places to eat are situated all around and are local favorites, particularly the corner pizza company. Museums offer a change of pace to visitors walking nearby. The performing arts are also represented in small theatres which show regularly. The Strand Theatre, a spectacular renovation project, has returned to its original 1920’s design complete with opera boxes and marquee.  Center stage in Glover Park is a fountain with plenty of seating for casual gathering, a gazebo and a stage for performers to entertain anyone watching or listening.

Brick pathways and regulating signals gently guide walkers from corner to corner as they stroll through the best that downtown Marietta has to offer.

Marietta Georgia: Location/Geography

The land of Marietta is situated on 2000 square miles.  It is flanked on the west by the scenic Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield.  It includes the historic location of what is now Dobbins Air Reserve Base to its south and reaches up to the border of Cherokee County.  The old is juxtaposed with the new until the old is either renovated or cleared for further development.  The most charming of the old remains while the dilapidated is displaced with new homes and/or supporting commercial buildings.  Traffic patterns have been well planned for optimal mobility for either car or bicycle.  There are hills and plains, parks and light industrial areas. The best views are enjoyed on top of Kennesaw Mountain.  On a clear day you can see the city of Atlanta from its summit.

Marietta Attractions & Recreation

Parks and recreation facilities are dotted in 37 places all over Marietta and Cobb County with amenities for tennis, soccer, baseball or softball, swimming, hockey, fitness centers and so much more.  Cobb County’s Central Library is located in Marietta, just east of the square.  There is plenty of genealogy to explore in The Georgia Room there.  Also the history buff would enjoy a visit the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park to learn about the War Between the States.  Shop at the square, at nearby Town Center Mall or at the distinguished Avenues at East Cobb.  Visit Harry’s for exceptional produce and a wide selection of whole foods. Take in a show at the Anderson Theater.  If you like the male voice, watch for concerts by The Big Chicken Chorus, an award winning barbershop chorus, or better yet, join in.  If you love, not like, golf, The Marietta Country Club will be on your list.  It is a full service private golf and country club where members can enjoy exceptional dining, social entertainment and recreational experiences.   The Metro Atlanta area has a large tennis community and to accommodate this, Cobb County offers 6 tennis centers, 3 of which are located in Marietta Georgia.
